Foundation Data Specialist
Lori Blake serves as the Foundation Data Specialist and our Lillis Center Administrative Assistant. She assists with documenting, reporting and acknowledgment of gifts generously donated to ministries of St. John’s. She graduated from Montana State University-Billings with a Legal Secretary Degree.
Lori is married to Nick Blake who owns Desmonds Men’s Store. Together they have two daughters. Lori enjoys watching the Food Network and finding new recipes to try out on friends and family.
Mara Flynn serves as Graphic Designer for the Foundation and for all of St. John’s ministry communities. She has eighteen years of experience in the graphic design industry, including her ten years at St. John’s. After college, her professional work began in a print shop learning pre-press procedures. She was lead designer for a web and marketing firm that guided businesses in logo, print, and website development. Her service on behalf of St. John’s has broadened her skill set to include marketing and community engagement, social media marketing, photography, and community events planning. Mara is very enthusiastic about graphic design. She loves to investigate and learn about new programs and techniques that enhance her creative process.
When Mara is not designing, you can find her with her 3 fur-babies, outdoors. She is a camping, hiking and crafting enthusiast.
Kari Leone began work at St. John’s in 2008 and has since become a vital presence within the Foundation and throughout all St. John’s communities. Her current responsibilities include Governance and Foundation Board management, executive team support, Foundation leadership, event planning and office management. In sum, she has fifteen years of executive office management experience.
Kari is a graduate of Montana State University – Billings, where she received a B.A. degree in Sociology. She is married to Erik Leone and they enjoy watching their two daughters play sports, skiing, hiking, and traveling.
Director of Community Events
Margie Prokop serves as Community Events Coordinator for the Foundation and for St. John’s senior living communities. The annual Summer Concert Series and Art for the Ages art show are thriving examples of her capable and joyful leadership. Prior to joining staff at St. John’s, Margie served as Director of Youth and Family Ministries within one of St. John’s ownership congregations. In sum, she has provided over twenty-five years of leadership within ministries of the Lutheran Church.
Margie attended Montana State University – Billings, where she studied Psychology and Religious Studies. She is married to Ron Prokop. Together, they enjoy spending time with their three sons, camping, reading and gardening.
Vice President of Mission Advancement
Tom Schlotterback serves as Vice President of Mission Advancement. He is responsible for guiding the Foundation to achieve its philanthropic aims and for nurturing missional relations among staff, Board members, stakeholders and friends of St. John’s.
Tom is an ordained minister within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Prior to beginning work at St. John’s in 2014, he served for five years as Director of Vocation and Church Leadership at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, and twenty-two years as a congregational pastor. He is a 1982 graduate of Concordia College, where he received a B.A. degree in biology; a 1987 graduate of Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he received a Master of Divinity degree; and is a currently working on a Doctor of Ministry degree in Columbus, Ohio.
Tom is married to Sarah Schlotterback, a Billings Public School teacher. They are parents of five grown children who currently live in Colorado, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, and North Dakota.
Rachel Simonson serves the Foundation as Gift Planner. She is instrumental in helping donors find the most efficient and beneficial way to make philanthropic gifts that will have an enduring impact on the mission of St. John’s Lutheran Ministries.
Rachel is a Certified Financial Planner and holds a B.S. in Business Management. She has worked in the financial services industry for more 20 years, primarily with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, a Fortune 500 faith-based organization. Her specialty is listening to the heart of the giver and creating a giving plan fills the heart with joy.
Director of Volunteer Services
Carissa Welsh serves as the Community Volunteer Coordinator for all of St. John’s Communities. She is passionate about creating meaningful and impactful volunteer experiences and deeper inter-generational connections for our resident elders.
Carissa served four years in the Air Force as an avionics maintainer on C-130’s before graduating with a Bachelor’s in Social Work from Limestone College in 2009 and a Master’s in Social Work from the University of South Carolina in 2012. She has worked as a case manager in both community and residential long term care settings around South Carolina. As a volunteer with the Red Cross’ Service to the Armed Forces in Europe, Carissa led and established various volunteer programs from the local to national level.
Carissa enjoys hiking, trail running, traveling, and the arts and is looking forward to exploring all Montana has to offer.
